Miles Brown, Jazz Musician, Sailor!

Welcome to Episode 109 of The Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP)! This episode we go for a short daysail with fan of the show, Patron, and fellow Bay Sailor Miles Brown. If you recall a few episodes ago we featured a track from his new Jazz Album, Evidence of Soul and Body, from the Detroit Music Factory (Go Buy it!). This time around we start things off with a snippet of another song off the album, “Like Dave.”
Anyway, I had the opportunity to invite some Facebook Fans out for a day sail, and Miles was able to stop around and go out for a bit before the storms blew up. It was a very short sail, maybe 90 minutes, before the weather moved in for a brief, but fairly strong storm front came through. We were able to sit down on the porch and later the Bar at Hances Point Yacht Club for a conversation on how Miles came to sailing and why he loves it so much!
Hopefully we can get out again sometime soon!
Speaking of getting out there and sailing, we had a failed effort this past Sunday in 20 to 30kts of wind after a front came through. We (I) wasn’t able to get the Mooring lines off the cleat, there was so much tension on the lines and they fit, just so…… Lesson learned, take heed the signs, after almost losing a digit, twice, I packed it in….. could I have gotten the lines off eventually? Probably, using water or some other form of brute force, but safety first is the mantra beat into me at work. Stay out of the “Line of Fire,” Do your “Mental Risk Assessment,” and all that jazz. I thought better of it, and called it. It would have been a sporty sail for sure, so today I’m heading back down for some Hot, Humid, not much breeze hanging out on the boat for 4th of July. Hopefully there’s some wind tomorrow, and I’ll be able to get the lines off, and maybe effect some kind of temporary repair by which I’ll be able to get them off in the future.
