Welcome to this episode of The Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP), our guest is friend, supporter, and Patron of our podcast, Sailor Jack Andrys.
I first heard Jack when he was on The Sailing in the Mediterranean and beyond podcast with Franz way back when. Jack and another friend of the show, Neil Fletcher, had both gone sailing in the Med with Franz and came on the several episodes to tell us all about it. When they both went out and bought boats and started cruising, they would come on and report back to all of us listeners about what they were getting into when they were “Out There.”
Jack and his son Reuben, were kind enough to sit down for lunch at Davis’ Pub in Eastport on a recent Saturday. They are in town to get rigging work done on Jacks new boat, a Jeanneau 54DS, while Reuben has taken over command of their old boat, a Bavaria 44. For the time being they are buddy boating up from the Bahama’s, but soon enough, they may part ways. Plans are made in the sand a Low Tide, so what is to come may change. Jack may end up back in the Med, after 5 years in the Caribbean, while Reuben needs to prove he can effectively afford to run Vesna, the Bavaria 44, maybe back in the Bahama’s.
Part of our conversation surrounds the starting of noforeignland.com and the new App to go along with it. Consider Jack an ambassador for the website and the new App, which is a great tool for globetrotting cruisers around the world.
Jack introduced me to his family and gave me a quick tour of the new boat before we headed out for lunch, and I gave him the 5 cent tour along with some recommendations for places to check out in Annapolis while they were there. The plan is to put the boats up in Cape Charles for a few weeks and getting some more work done on the boats before deciding which way the winds are blowing.
Hopefully we will catch up with Jack again someday somewhere out in the world, possibly a boat show or two!
I also tackle another safety concern I recently experienced in the intro, breaking down what can happen at anchor when you think everything is just hunky dory, and it all goes sideways.
